The One Show host Alex Jones became tearful during this evening's programme when her husband Charlie Thomson made a surprise appearance to mark her 15-year milestone with the show. Alex struggled to hold back tears as presenters Roman Kemp and Richard Osman brought her spouse of a decade onto the set. "It's very weird, it's weird being this side," she remarked as Charlie settled beside her on the guests' sofa. It's weird being next to you. You're normally in the garden, building the treehouse now."
When questioned about his feelings towards Alex, Charlie revealed to the programme: "I'm extremely proud, not just from what she's achieved here but also with the family at home. Balancing those two has been amazing and keeping it tide over at different times. Covid period, always there."
This follows The One Show being interrupted as guest Richard Osman stepped in for Alex Jones during the broadcast.
Alex began to become emotional, stating: "I couldn't do it without this man at home who keeps everything running while I'm here and sorts out the children and bed time while I'm here."
She continued: "And mum and dad and the family and friends at home who keep my feet on the ground.
"Everybody here as well and our viewers who've put up with me for 15 years - thank you."
Alex and insurance specialist Charlie wed in 2015 and are now parents to three youngsters.
The television personality previously revealed details about the pair's "rough period" in 2023, during which Charlie was fighting Lyme Disease and viral meningitis. Speaking on Gabby Logan's podcast The MidPoint, Alex revealed that he is "in a much better place now" but was a "shadow of himself" whilst he battled with his mental health over the illness.
"It's my husband's own story to tell, so I won't go into detail, but he suffers with his mental health and we've just been through a really bad period where, bless him, he had Lyme Disease and then he had viral meningitis. Lots of things happened recently," she revealed.
