Game of Thrones: Official Series Trailer as epic saga closes

Game of Thrones fans have been left fuming over an “absolutely pathetic” update, threatening to boycott a new series.

The beloved franchise is getting yet another spin-off series soon, with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on George R. R. Martin’s The Tales of Dunk and Egg, set to air on HBO next year.

After being affected by the writers’ strikes, fans have been eagerly awaiting news surrounding the prequel series.

It follows Dunk (Ser Duncan the Tall, the future Commander of the Kingsguard) and Egg (the future King Aegon V Targaryen), and is set in between Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, around 100 years before the stories of Jon Snow and Arya Stark.

Fans have finally been given an update, with reports claiming the first series will feature six episodes that are around 30-35 minutes long, leaving many utterly disappointed.

“Yeah no one wants this,” one person wrote as the news was shared on Reddit.

Another fumed: “30-35 minute episodes…they are going to run this franchise into the ground.”

Someone else seethed: “3 hours a season and it’ll be 2033 before season 3 comes out probably.”

Another echoed: “So we get six episodes every two years? This is dead on arrival,” while someone else questioned: “wtf is going on lol,” to which another fan replied: “Utter tomfoolery is what’s going on!”

“I really hate this era of everything being not quite a movie and not quite a season,” someone else said.

“Yikes that really sucks,” one wrote, while another slammed: “6 half hour episodes is absolutely pathetic. What’s the point, just make it a movie.”

“Is this a sitcom or what?” another said, as someone else blasted: “This is absolute horse s**t. F**k this franchise now.”

Further details for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms have yet to be released, though reports are claiming the series has been renewed for a second and third season, following the second and third novellas of the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms volume.

HBO executive Francesca Orsi said earlier this year: “We’re already planning on how do we build this for the three seasons in total. We’re not picking it up officially, but it’s looking very good. We’re looking at it as a holistic piece, Seasons 2 and 3, because there’s three novellas.”

George R. R. Martin also shared his support for the upcoming series, writing on his blog: “I’ve seen all six episodes now (the last two in rough cuts, admittedly), and I loved them. Dunk and Egg have always been favorites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible. The rest of the cast are terrific as well. Wait until you guys meet the Laughing Storm. and Tanselle Too-Tall.“

He added: “It’s as faithful as adaptation as a reasonable man could hope for (and you all know how incredibly reasonable I am on that particular subject).”

The synopsis for the first season, titled The Hedge Knight, teases: “The tale is based around characters affectionately known as ‘Dunk and Egg’ – Ser Duncan the Tall, a young but courageous knight, while Egg is his small-in-stature young squire.

“Together the pair are wandering Westeros. This time period is a state of change for the Seven Kingdoms. While the Targaryens still hold the Iron Throne, they are now without dragons.

“While the last dragon is still within living memory, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits await these two unlikely heroes.”

The novel was released in 1998, with the second, The Sworn Sword in 2003 and the final of the trio, The Mystery Knight, in 2010.
