GB News delivered a devastating blow to Labour on Wednesday as they shared that asylum seekers were now crossing the border from France at "record speed" after only weeks, back when Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer vowed to clamp down on net migration. Home and Security editor for the channel, Mark White reported live from Dover that over 2000 illegal migrants have made it over the English Channel since the new "one in one out deal" was agreed with France in a move to discourage people travelling in small boats to obtain access to the UK

White warned that small boat crossings in the English Channel are continuing rapidly despite the UK’s new returns agreement with France. He shared: "As we speak, migrants are crossing the Channel. Yes, they are still here because it will take a few weeks before they can be transferred to France. France has two weeks to respond to the UK government, with the possibility, of course, that they may reject some or all of those the UK has earmarked for return.”

He also stressed that only a small number of people will be sent back under the deal, even by the Labour government’s own admission.

White shared: “The initial numbers will be modest. But compare that to the fact that more than 2,000 have crossed since the deal was signed. In fact, if you include today’s number, a total of 2,160 have crossed since the deal was agreed with the French government.”

He reported that 160 people made the crossing on Wednesday alone, with the Border Force vessel Defender bringing arrivals into the UK which will create a “grim record” for Sir Keir Starmer's party.

"Another grim record that has been broken. I can’t go into it yet, but it’s a worrying development as far as the authorities here are concerned, as they continue to do their best to stop this ongoing, and seemingly inevitable, flow across the Channel," he added.

Starmer came into power 403 days ago, promising to scrap the government’s failing Rwanda plan, abandon the slogan “stop the boats,” and instead use the money to “smash the gangs” organising the crossings. However, these promises have fallen short as many continue to cross the Channel in small boats, and the smuggling gangs keep profiting from those seeking to make the journey.

The Prime Minister has introduced several measures expected to cut the operations of the smuggling gangs, but ministers say they will take time. Besides the "one in one out" policy, he plans to introduce measures including powers to trace suspects, freeze smugglers' assets, and increase the number of specialised investigators.

There is also a border security, asylum, and immigration bill, which will grant counter-terror-style powers to help identify and disrupt smuggling gangs; however, this has not yet been passed.
