Homes Under the Hammer presenter Dion Dublin travelled to Burnley, Lancashire, to inspect a bargain property boasting a distinctive feature.
During the repeat programme, broadcast on Wednesday (August 20), Dion revealed his enthusiasm for a semi-detached house situated in a "pretty quiet" residential neighbourhood that had immediately caught his eye.
Whilst conducting a standard examination of the three-bedroom terraced property, Dion observed that it appeared free from any significant structural problems; rather, it simply required a comprehensive renovation and general tidying.
Nevertheless, the television personality also highlighted that the dwelling possessed a "massive selling point," and as he explored further, it became evident the property demanded considerable attention and updating owing to its dated 70s and 80s-style décor and inadequate lighting throughout.
Having presented Homes Under the Hammer for a decade, Dion recognised that the Lancashire residence could prove a bargain for the appropriate developer, particularly given it offered both countryside and Burnley Stadium, Turf Moor, vistas from the upper floor windows, reports Lancs Live.
Despite its promising prospects, the semi-detached house entered auction with a modest guide price of merely £40,000.
Naturally, numerous investors recognised its identical potential and consequently it ultimately sold under the hammer for considerably more. The successful purchaser was Charlie, from London.
He had journeyed all the way from the English capital because he believed it would be an excellent addition to his property portfolio.
Charlie, who had previously featured on the show with presenter Martin Roberts several years earlier, snapped up the Burnley property for £78,000 and remained confident he could renovate the house to an excellent standard alongside his brother Harry in merely four weeks.
Dion questioned Charlie about his financial expectations: "So, how much budget do you have to spend on it?" Charlie replied: "We estimate between £8,000 and £10,000.
"Wow," responded the presenter, who seemed astonished at how rapidly and affordably Charlie and Harry thought they could complete the transformation.
The tradesman went on to reveal that he possessed the qualifications to fit a new central heating system personally and that he intended to use a "recycled kitchen from another property" to keep expenses low.
Although taken aback by their ambitious plans, Dion remarked that he also had confidence the duo would succeed: "I have every faith in Charlie and his brother Harry. I don't doubt them; they've done it before."
When Dion made his return visit to Charlie merely three weeks afterwards, it became clear the brothers understood precisely what they were undertaking, having finished the complete refurbishment well ahead of schedule and exceeding their £10,000 budget by a mere £400.
A neighbourhood estate agent calculated that Charlie could secure a straightforward pre-tax profit of approximately £31,000 should he place the Burnley house on the market, yet the shrewd builder had no intention of selling. Rather than selling, he had hoped to keep the property and let it out, with a tenant already prepared to move in for the agreed monthly rent of £620.
Homes Under the Hammer airs weekdays on BBC One, from 11:15am.
