A local ice cream seller has died after being reportedly stabbed eight times in London, with two people arrested, the Metropolitan Police has said. Police were called at about 6.10pm on Tuesday to reports of a stabbing in Monks Park, Wembley.

Officers, together with the London Ambulance Service, attended the scene and treated a 38-year-old man who had suffered stab wounds. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he sadly died at the scene. His family has been notified and is receiving support from specialist officers.

In the early hours of Wednesday, August 20, a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

In addition, a 31-year-old woman who was present at the scene was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and also remains in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Waller, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family and friends at this hugely difficult time.

“We have made quick progress overnight, with two arrests made so far. Both individuals remain in police custody. Detectives are continuing to work at pace to understand the full circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

“We are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist our investigation. Residents in the area can expect to see an increased police presence while inquiries continue.

“We also ask that residents check any doorbell or CCTV footage around Monks Park. Even the smallest detail could prove crucial, and anyone who believes they have relevant footage should contact the police immediately.”

Asim Mahmood Butt, 39, a local resident who lives in nearby Tokyngton Avenue, said he had known the victim since childhood.

He told The Sun: "I got a call from one of my cousins. This guy, we know him - he's a famous ice cream guy. He got stabbed yesterday.

"I came here and his body was still here, and police had cordoned off the area.

"We don't know the reason why, but all that we know is that a guy with a grey hoodie stabbed him eight times. That's what I've been told.
