The TikTok generation is celebrating the triumph of one of its own, with one of the platform's breakout stars landing a role in a forthcoming historical epic.
Henry Rowley - previously hailed as 'TikTok's comedy darling' by Tatler - has amassed a two million-strong fanbase across TikTok and Instagram. His comedic sketches span from satirising London living to mimicking major celebrities, including a remarkably accurate portrayal of Keira Knightley.
The Leicester-born entertainer abandoned his marketing career to chase his comedy and acting dreams full-time, and has subsequently expanded his portfolio with numerous Edinburgh Fringe productions, stand-up gigs and now a part in MGM+'s upcoming series, Robin Hood.
He revealed the thrilling announcement back in February, but enthusiastic supporters have only recently been offered their initial peek at the programme, which also features Game of Thrones legend Sean Bean alongside Wonder Woman's Connie Nielsen.
The series is poised to deliver a fresh take on the beloved Robin Hood legend with a "heightened focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian.", reports the Mirror.
Rising star Jack Patten will embody the titular protagonist, whilst Hollyoaks performer Lauren McQueen will portray Marian.
Bean appears as Sheriff of Nottingham, whilst Nielsen's role is Eleanor of Aquitaine. Although Rowley's character remains under wraps, he joins an ensemble that also features Lydia Peckham (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), Steven Waddington (The Trap), Marcus Fraser (Foundation) and Angus Castle-Doughty (Shadow and Bone).
The ten-episode series is set to premiere on MGM+ in the UK later this year, although an exact release date has yet to be announced.
Upon hearing of Rowley's casting news, his fans were quick to express their support. "Best casting choice since Christian Slater in Prince of Thieves," wrote one.
Another jested: "Cool you got your Keira Knighley face on a poster.
"Still hard to believe you swerved the pub quiz for this," teased a third, while a fourth exclaimed: "Huge congratulations, Henry! Absolutely chuffed to bits."
A release date is yet to be announced for Robin Hood
