All Creatures Great and Small's Callum Woodhouse has hinted that his character may be facing some challenges in the upcoming series of the Channel 5 period drama. The actor is returning to his role as Tristan Farnon in the sixth instalment of the Yorkshire-based series, which chronicles the life of vet James Herriot (Nicholas Ralph) .
In the show, which starts today (September 25), Tristan has served in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps and was stationed in Cairo, Egypt, for a time. Speaking to Radio Times, the 31-year-old actor revealed that Tristan has "been back on the frontlines" and has "certainly seen more than his fair share of tragedy and atrocities".
Callum, who also starred in Cold Feet, Father Brown and The Durrells, suggested that while Tristan may appear fine on the surface, there might be underlying issues, reports Manchester Evening News.
"He spends the series trying to push a lot of things down and try to make everyone think that he's absolutely fine," he said.
"He's the usual Tristan that we all know and expect, but we're sort of drip-fed... that things aren't all OK."
Set in Northern England in the 1930s and 40s, All Creatures Great and Small is based on the series of books written by Alf Wight, who penned the tales under the pseudonym James Herriot.
Since its debut in 2020, the TV show has made quite an impact and has been warmly received by viewers.
A fresh series depicting the lives of characters in the Yorkshire Dales has been broadcast every autumn since the show's inception.
All Creatures Great and Small, which also features Samuel West, Anna Madeley, and Rachel Shenton, has aired a multitude of specials throughout its run.
All Creatures Great and Small returns to 5 on Thursday, September 25 at 9pm.
