The comedy series Twenty Twenty Six, written and directed by John Morton, hit BBC Four in 2011, but later aired on BBC Two

Twenty Twenty Six will aired on BBC One and BBC iPlayer next year.

The likes of Hugh Bonneville will reprise his role as Ian Fletcher, while Hugh Skinner will return as Will Humphries.

They aren't the only famous faces in the star-studded line-up.

EastEnders' Nicole Sadie Sawyerr, Sex Education's Joe Heweston, Blitz's Erin Kellyman and Everything I Know About Love's Marli Siu are in the cast.

David Tennant will also be back to narrate the programme.

Speaking ahead of the epic return, Hugh Skinner said: 'It’s been absolutely ages since I played Will in W1A.

'He’s still on the whole, completely useless and I’m thrilled to be having another go. It’s been a complete joy being back with the cast and crew, old and new, and I am so looking forward to seeing what audiences make of the Twenty Twenty Six Oversight Team.'

BBC's press release about the upcoming series states: 'Next year’s football tournament will be the biggest ever.

'Hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico with 48 countries taking part and 16 venues thousands of miles apart across the whole of North America; what could possibly go wrong?

'Ian Fletcher is about to find out, as he joins the Twenty Twenty Six Oversight Team in Miami as its Director of Integrity.

'The BBC can reveal that firm W1A favourite, Hugh Skinner (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Fleabag) returns as Will Humphries.

'Across two series of W1A, Will graduated from hapless intern to the dizzy heights of Ian’s PA.

'Will is back, to his - alongside everyone else’s - great surprise, as eager as ever to personally assist Ian on delivering a seamless soccer competition.'

Meanwhile the show creator John said: 'I’m thrilled and hugely grateful to the BBC for giving me the chance to follow Ian again, this time all the way to Miami, and I literally can’t wait to see what happens.'

And the producer Expectation's Creative Director, Scripted, Nerys Evans, said: 'I’ve been a fan of John’s writing for such a long time, especially seeing the different challenges he creates for poor Ian Fletcher, so beautifully portrayed by Hugh Bonneville.

'We’re thrilled to be collaborating on Twenty Twenty Six, I can’t wait to see what he’s got in store for Ian this time.'

The original cast starred the likes of Hugh Bonneville, Amelia Bullmore, Olivia Colman, Vincent Franklin and Jessica Hynes.
