Strictly Come Dancing star Tom Skinner left everyone stunned when he walked out of the 2025 interviews at Elstree Studios.
I was in the room when he abruptly walked out during the interviews, and I can't say I was particularly shocked that he did. We were all excited to speak to Tom, thinking he would be interesting to talk to, and we were keen to hear his thoughts on taking part in Strictly, as well as his thoughts on free speech following the backlash to the announcement he would be on the show.
But when all of the Strictly stars came into the room at Elstree, a lot of them looked thrilled to be there, with many smiling and waving and greeting journalists as they found their spots. But as Tom walked past my seat, I couldn't help but notice his attitude was on a very different level to everyone else's. He didn't seem that happy to be in the room, and chose instead to talk to fellow contestant Ellie Goldstein rather than address everyone in the room.
That's why it didn't come as much of a surprise when Tom walked out after only completing two interviews, with sources saying he had been left upset after he realised he was being recorded while sat at the table, even taking a reporter's phone before they managed to get it back.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, with whom Tom was doing his interviews, was left to finish off the rest of the interviews by himself, taking it all in his stride. When we asked why he was solo, the PR was quick to avoid giving anything away, with Jimmy trying to smooth things over by asking, "Am I not enough for you?"
Sources at the event shared the BBC's staff's frustration at Tom's behaviour to Express.co.uk, especially as the pressure is on for a drama-free series after a string of scandals.
They revealed that staff desperately tried to encourage Tom back to complete the chats, in the hopes he would calm down, but Tom wouldn't be reasoned with, leaving embarrassed staff forced to apologise on his behalf.
But while Tom's behaviour can be written off as simply an unprofessional moment, I think everyone would agree it doesn't bode well for the best of the series, especially as he was a controversial star to sign up anyway after bosses took a punt on him. It is especially a big kick in the teeth as just moments before, BBC boss Tim Davie was defending signing him up.
The BBC were clearly hoping he would be a talking point for this show, but I'm guessing not before the series has even started. Rather than being about free speech, Tom seemed more intent on being a diva who didn't want to play ball, which is definitely not what bosses are off. So, here's hoping they give him a stern talking to and tell him to get his act together before September 27.
