Jamie Carragher delivered a crushing verdict on Ruben Amorim's prospects at Manchester United following their defeat to Brentford. After securing victory against Chelsea last weekend, the Red Devils had the opportunity to achieve consecutive Premier League wins for the first time under Amorim's stewardship. However, two first-half strikes from Igor Thiago at the Gtech Community Stadium dashed those hopes considerably, with Mathias Jensen adding a third in the dying moments.
Benjamin Sesko netted his maiden United goal earlier in the contest but it failed to alter the final result, with Bruno Fernandes also missing a penalty. Despite suffering their fourth loss of the campaign already, United bosses remain committed to Amorim and have not identified any potential successors, according to the Manchester Evening News.
It seems Amorim may have been briefed on this position, judging by his post-match comments.
"I am never concerned about my job, I am not that kind of guy," he told Match of the Day. "It is not my decision. I will do the best I can every minute I am here."
Pundits have also been debating his future at United, with Carragher the latest to offer his assessment, making his position crystal clear.
Speaking on Monday Night Football, he said: "I think he's still in a job because the powers-at-be have made so many mistakes that they almost don't want to admit right now they have made another.
"This has been a disaster for Amorim and United. The quicker they make a decision on the manager we are only waiting for the inevitable. This has to end as quickly as possible."
In a rather harsh tone, Carragher then declared: "I think every other Premier League manager would think 'I could do a better job' - the only positive is they haven't gone all out for his system."
Carragher suggested that the summer signings, particularly the three attackers, could still be effective in a more traditional back-four system.
"Any competent football manager could get United to the European places or certainly fighting for them," he continued. "It couldn't have gone any worse.
"What he did at Sporting was really special, but it will be better for everyone to just shake hands and move on."
