It might’ve been a difficult start to life on the pitch for Manchester United, but the Red Devils are at least taking steps to build for the future with their transfer dealings. That’s because United are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign talented Colombian youngster Cristian Orozco.

That’s according to reports from Colombia, which suggest United have agreed a deal with Orozco’s current team, Fortaleza CEIF. They ply their trade in the Colombian top flight, and Orozco has caught the eye of United’s scouts.

Orozco is primarily deployed as a holding midfielder and has a canny knack for sweeping up opposition attacks, while picking out his team-mates with his on-the-ball ability. What’s more, Orozco is also a rising star in the Colombian youth ranks, having impressed at the recent Under-17 South American Championships, where Colombia reached the final.

Fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the talented teen will be forced to wait a while, given Orozco isn’t due to join United until after his 18th birthday next year. But the 17-year-old isn’t the only prodigy rumoured to be putting pen to paper on a move to the Premier League side.

Mouhamed Dabo is another youngster on the brink of an Old Trafford switch, with Africa Foot reporting a deal is on the verge of being completed in the past 24 hours. Dabo is said to have been on trial at United for a couple of weeks, with the coaches impressed by the teen’s ability.

Dabo has ticked all of the boxes when it came to clean tackling, vision, composure, ball control, leadership, tireless work, progressive passing and pace control. Should they get the deal over the line, United would’ve fended off interest from Barcelona, given Dabo enjoyed a month-long internship at the Spanish side’s famed La Masia academy.

Reports from Spain suggest Barcelona were keen to sign Dabo to their academy, but he was under the age of 18 at the time - something FIFA rules prevent from happening. They were keen to strike a verbal agreement with the Senegal youth international, but their attempt didn’t come to fruition.

It’s part of a concerted effort from INEOS and United to future-proof their recruitment, with several young stars signed to the club’s books since Sir Jim Ratcliffe arrived at the club. Ayden Heaven, Diego Leon, Chido Obi and Sekou Kone have all been brought in with a long-term view in mind.
