"It was hard to lose Cunha and Mason Mount, because Mason Mount played 30 minutes with an injury," said the United boss. "I'm concerned about that, because they are so important for us. We will see.

"I don't know [how they are], I don't know. We will check them. We need those guys really bad to be really competitive."

Following the setback against the Clarets, Cunha hinted he would be 'back soon' via social media. Now, the ex-Wolves forward has offered a fresh update through his Instagram story.

Posting a photograph of himself on an exercise bike within a gymnasium, he wrote: "The time is flying," accompanied by a clock emoji and dynamite emoji.

Cunha subsequently shared a picture of himself displaying a UFC wristband with the message: 'Obrigado pela moral', which translates to 'thanks for the moral'.

It remains uncertain whether he will feature in next week's Manchester derby clash with Manchester City.

An injury expert recently claimed that Cunha's problem was similar to that of Chelsea striker Liam Delap, although potentially not as serious.

Stephen Smith, CEO and founder of Kitman Labs, told Metro: "We are looking at the same body area as Liam Delap.

"But potentially with what we heard and saw in terms of him [Cunha] being able to move around quite freely as he left the stadium, we would like to think it was a lower grade injury.

"A grade one hamstring injury could still typically see a player ruled out for two to three weeks. A grade one injury is generally where there is pain and swelling but no or minimum fibre disruption.

"A grade two, there is a small amount of fibre disruption so it means the muscle has torn slightly and a grade three is a complete rupture.

"United absolutely had to keep him in Manchester during the international break. There is no point putting a guy on a plane going away that far when you know he is not going to be able to participate."
