Hugh Bonneville interrupted a live TV interview to issue an urgent demand about the situation in Gaza. The actor, 61, attended the premiere for the third and final Downton Abbey film in Leicester Square in London on Wednesday (3 September), where he spoke to ITV London News reporter Helen Keenan. But before discussing the upcoming final instalment, in which he reprises his role as the Earl of Grantham, Bonneville demanded the international community must do more to intervene in the conflict in Gaza.

"Before I talk about the fluff and loveliness of our wonderful film - what's about to happen in Gaza is indefensible,” he said, pointing directly at the camera with a piercing gaze. “The international community must do more to bring it to an end.” Without skipping a beat, he continued: "Downton Abbey is a lovely film and we’re going to celebrate 15 glorious years of it tonight.”

After the broadcast cut back to the news anchor at the ITV London News studio, she said: “Of course, it's not about the politics, it's all about the film.”

Bonneville looked happier than ever as he arrived at the Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale premiere with his girlfriend Heidi Kadlecova. He sported a black tuxedo which he paired with a white shirt and black bow tie.

Vegan influencer Kadlecova complemented the Paddington star in a stunning black and nude gown adorned with sequin embellishments.

He attended the event alongside his co-stars stars including Laura Carmichael, Joanne Froggatt and Michelle Dockery, who announced she is expecting her first child.

The Grand Finale follows the Crawley family as they grapple with the threat of social disgrace when Mary finds herself at the center of a public scandal. It is being released in cinemas on 12 September.

Executive producer Gareth Neale explained how the final instalment will pay tribute to the witty Lady Violet Crawley and Maggie Smith, who died in September 2024.

Speaking with TV Line, he said: "The fact that Dame Maggie herself has now passed away since that time, I do think, has given a real added poignancy to a story that we would have planned anyway.

"The loss of the Dowager, it now feels far more significant that you see actors playing characters mourning the family matriarch. But I also see actors mourning the matriarch of the show, and it feels more genuine and more meaningful."
