ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X explained
In June's Xbox Games Showcase, Xbox finally announced the existence of its handheld console, or rather, it announced two of them.
Made in conjunction with Asus, the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X represent the two variations of the console – it's best to think of them as you would the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles.
The base ROG Xbox Ally comes with an AMD Ryzen Z2 A CPU, 16GB RAM and 512GB of storage, while the more powerful ROG Xbox Ally X comes with an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme CPU, 24GB RAM and 1TB of storage.
These are Xbox versions of the already existing Asus ROG Ally line of handheld consoles, with both Xbox versions marking slight upgrades on their predecessors in terms of specs.
When is the ROG Xbox Ally release date?
The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X are currently scheduled to release on 16th October 2025.
It had been suggested the consoles would launch in the holiday season, which typically means around November or December, but it appears Microsoft had other plans.
As for where it will be available, players can purchase the consoles directly from both Xbox and Asus, as well as some select retailers such as Currys, which currently has exclusive rights to sell the Asus ROG Ally X in the UK.
ROG Xbox Ally price – how much will it cost?
While the prices of both consoles haven't been confirmed yet, we can estimate how much they will both cost thanks to the existing ROG Ally handhelds.
The Asus ROG Ally costs £599 / $649.99, while the Asus ROG Ally X costs £799.99 / $799.99.
Therefore, we would expect that the ROG Xbox Ally would cost at least £600/$650 and the ROG Xbox Ally X to cost at least £800/$800.
That being said, both consoles represent slight improvements on their original counterparts, meaning unless Asus is willing to cut the price of its existing handhelds, the new ROG Xbox Ally consoles may retail at a higher price.
