A former 'teacher of the year' award winner will not serve time behind bars after she pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting one of her female students.

Brandyn Hargrove, 43, was convicted Wednesday of 12 counts related to the relationship she had with a 15-year-old student nearly two decades ago.

She was involved in a two-year sexual relationship with the girl beginning in 2007, while the victim was a student at Brazoswood High School in Clute, Texas.

The victim, who is now in her 30s, reported the affair to police in September 2023 and Hargrove was indicted and arrested on a $240,000 bond.

Hargrove pleaded guilty last week to six counts of sexual assault of a child, four counts of indecency with a child by contact, and two counts of indecency with a child by exposure as part of a plea deal, KPRC reports.

The agreement saw Hargrove sentenced to 10 years of probation with a 10-year probated sentence, meaning she will not face any prison time.

The once-decorated educator is also required to register as a sex offender for life.

Brazosport Independent School District terminated Hargrove's employment in 2024. She will not to return to the classroom as Texas law prohibits any person convicted of a sexual offense or a felony against a minor from working in a school.

Hargrove allegedly had a relationship with the former Brazoswood High School student in 2007 when the girl was 15. Hargrove was around 27 years old.

The victim came forward to Clute police in September 2023, alleging she had been sexually assaulted by her teacher at an off-campus location for two years.

Detectives worked diligently on the case and even managed to track down the victim's former classmates and people she made 'initial outcries' to, police say.

'From the get-go, we really felt there was a good chance this would go to trial, so we were a little surprised with the plea agreement,' Clute Police Department Chief James Fitch told KTRK.

But the chief said the district attorney's office spoke with the victim before accepting the plea agreement.

The victim even faced Hargrove in court last week, detailing the traumatic aftermath of the abuse and how she has now gone from 'victim to survivor, victim to victor'.

'Brandyn, I face you today as the adult who now protects the child you once exploited and betrayed. You didn’t just break boundaries. You broke a person,' the victim said during the hearing, The Facts reports.

Hargrove was charged with sex assault and indecency of a child, because at the time of the crime, the charge of improper relationship with a student did not exist.

Hargrove was immediately placed on administrative leave in September 2023 after the school district was made privy to the sexual assault investigation.

Officials took steps to terminate her employment during a special board meeting in January 2024 following the allegations.

Fitch confirmed in 2023 that investigators found no evidence of any other victims.

Hargrove won numerous awards throughout her career and was previously crowned Teacher of the Year at the school.

The former educator admitted in court that she accepted the plea because she was guilty and affirmed she had not been coerced into doing so.
