A This Morning viewer was left stunned on Friday when they discovered the genuine value of a tennis bracelet they'd inherited.

During the programme's latest instalment, Dan Hatfield presented his 'how to separate fake from fortune' segment, with Mark from London ringing in about his mysterious item.

Mark revealed how a neighbour had bequeathed him the tennis bracelet in her will after he'd spent years walking her dog and doing her weekly shop, though he remained uncertain whether the piece was genuine or not.

He explained: "I've got a bracelet that was given to me well actually it was bequeathed to me in a will by a lady that I actually used to walk her dog and do her shopping.

"She lived two doors from me and she died, sadly, a few months ago and her probate came through. Surprisingly, I got a call from the solicitors to say you've been left a bracelet."

"It's very pretty but I'm not sure whether it's real or not because she didn't have a lot. She never told me about it, so I'm very interested to know what it might be worth."

Specialist Dan assessed the piece during the live broadcast, noting it was a "classic tennis bracelet". He asked: "You're not sure if it's real or fake, is that right Mark?"

The caller replied: "That's correct, I don't even know if I want to put it on my wrist, it might turn my wrist green!"

Dan disclosed that the bracelet dated from before 2000, verifying that the diamonds were indeed authentic. He stated: "I can say that with authority as I am a diamond grader."

The specialist revealed that the bracelet boasted approximately 7.5 to 8 carats of diamonds, noting the colour of the stones was "very good", whilst the piece itself was crafted from 18 carat gold.

Dan subsequently challenged presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary to estimate the value, prompting Dermot to confess: "I don't know!"

Alison, meanwhile, ventured: "I think it's going to be worth some serious dollar, she obviously loved him, he used to walk her dog... I reckon that's a good £20,000!"

Dermot, however, disagreed with her assessment, suggesting: "I wouldn't go that high, it'll be £2,000, £3,000? Something like that!"

Dan then revealed the bracelet's true worth, explaining: "Now, Mark, if you were to buy this from the shop, so bear in mind, the RRP is different to the value because resale value, the RRP would be £25,000."

The studio erupted in astonishment with Dermot exclaiming: "Woah, woah, woah!" whilst Alison gasped: "Oh my gosh!".

Dan elaborated: "If you were to sell this, you'd still be looking at, bearing in mind, it's second hand now, you'd still be looking at £15,000! So, Alison, you were almost spot on!" prompting her to applaud triumphantly.

This Morning caller Mark was left completely flabbergasted as he confessed: "Wow, oh I'm gobsmacked, she was a lovely person but I would not expect this and I certainly didn't do it to get this result at all. Fantastic, thank you."

This Morning continues on weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV X.
