Thomas Tuchel has revealed he has not held any discussions with Mason Greenwood about a potential England comeback. The former Manchester United forward this week rejected Jamaica's advances, sparking speculation he may be keeping his options open for the Three Lions.

Greenwood's last England appearance came five years ago when he was dismissed from the Iceland squad in disgrace alongside Phil Foden for breaching Covid protocols by bringing two women to the team hotel. In October 2022, Greenwood faced charges of attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and controlling and coercive behaviour. All charges against him were subsequently dropped in February 2023 but he left Manchester United later that year to join Marseille.

Any route back to international football seemed impossible, prompting Greenwood to explore switching allegiance to Jamaica through his father's heritage.

However, Jamaica manager Steve McClaren disclosed this week that Greenwood - currently enjoying a renaissance in France at Marseille having scored 23 goals in 39 appearances for the club - declined their call-up.

Whilst Greenwood remains available for England selection, Tuchel confirmed no dialogue has taken place and the striker isn't under consideration at the moment. The England manager Tuchel explained: "I have not spoken to him until now. I have not spoken to him or his camp.

"My understanding was that he tries to play for Jamaica so we didn't give it another thought. He was not in the mix at the moment and he is not in our thoughts for our team. I don't rule anything out but he is no priority at the moment."

It represents a peculiar impasse as Greenwood's rejection of Jamaica has evidently frustrated McClaren, who acknowledged the 23-year-old has had a change of heart.

McClaren revealed: "We acquired a passport and we expected him to be coming to this camp but in a conversation with his family, he's not going to commit at this time to anybody.

"It's a little bit disappointing, we probably have to be more patient. We will keep pursuing him because I know from my conversations with Mason that he loves Jamaica.

"He wants to concentrate on club football and not commit to an international team at the moment. He's taking his time over that. Who knows in the future?

"It's a disappointment for everybody because he would have been a big asset and he would have come here and enjoyed his football."
