A 10-year-old TV star and his 15-year-old brother perished in a house fire on Sunday 28 September police have confirmed. Veer Sharma, who found fame laying Pushkal in SonySAB’s Shrimad Ramayan, and brother Shoriya died after a fire broke out at their home around 2am on Sunday September 28. The blaze is believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, which was confined to the drawing room of the apartment in in Rajasthan’s Kota. Both boys were asleep at the time and are believed to have died of suffocation from the smoke inhalation rather than burns.
They were alone in the home at the time as their father Jitendra Sharma, was attending a bhajan programme, while their mother, Rita Sharma, a well known actress, was in Mumbai. It was reported Neighbours who saw smoke pouring out of the apartment rushed to break the door open and used fire extingushers to douse the flames.
The unconscious brothers were pulled out amd rushed to hospital but both boys were declared dead on arrival.
Police Superintendent Tejaswini Gautam confirmed: "The drawing room was completely destroyed and other parts of the flat also showed burn marks."
An investigation has been opened to determine the exact cause of the fire and the tragic deaths.
Tributes flooded in for the siblings as the news broke with people sharing their shock at the news and condolences for the boys' parents.
"Very tragic and sad. My heart goes to their family and pray for them to bear this tragic loss. There must be a thorough investigation to check if the building Apartments’s fire security was not compromised thus preventing such cases to take place in the future. My deepest condolences once again," one wrote on Facebook.
"Very heart wrenching. May their innocent souls rest in eternal peace," another added. A third chimed in: "Parents were away.. What a tragedy!! So sad for poor souls.. RIP."
