A fresh comedy series is poised to debut on BBC Three and iPlayer, boasting a stellar ensemble cast headed by White Lotus and Sex Education star Aimee Lou Wood.
Comprising six half-hour episodes, Film Club is a romantic comedy that centres on Evie (Aimee) as she juggles a budding romance with her closest mate Noa (Nabhaan Rizwan), alongside her tumultuous family dynamics and her relationship with boyfriend Josh (Adam Long).
Joining Aimee in the cast is Suranne Jones, portraying Evie's mother Suz, and Liv Hill, who takes on the role of Evie's sister Izzie.
Also featured is Adolescence star Owen Cooper, who brings Evie's neighbour Callum to life.
Aimee, who penned and developed the series alongside Ralph Davis, has showered praise on young performer Owen and his mischievous character in Film Club, reports Manchester Evening News.
"Also on Evie's Street is Callum, played by Owen Cooper, who is a unicorn really - absolutely magic and one in a million. Callum and Evie's relationship is lovely. He's the kid on the street who can never go inside, and she's the girl on the street who can never go outside.
"They're both coming from a similar place and answer a lot of each other's questions, even though they seem like total opposites," Aimee revealed.
Owen catapulted to stardom virtually overnight in Netflix's acclaimed television drama Adolescence, where he appeared alongside Stephen Graham and Christine Tremarco.
Owen portrayed protagonist Jamie Miller, whilst Stephen and Christine took on the roles of his parents, Eddie and Manda. Aimee also heaped praise on Suranne, declaring: "Suz is Evie's mother and is played by the exquisite and funny Suranne Jones.
"As soon as we started writing we knew we wanted Suranne to play the role, and she is wonderfully hilarious as Suz. Liv Hill is Evie's sister Izzie, her and Suranne are magical women and such generous actors to work with."
Suranne, renowned for her appearances in countless television programmes including Coronation Street, Hostage, Doctor Foster and Vigil, disclosed she had penned Aimee a note to "say thank you" for offering her the part of Suz.
"I've written Aimee a card to say thank you for bringing me Suz, and for giving me two daughters in her and Liv that I haven't actually had to push out myself; it's been an absolute joy.
"Suz is a ball of energy and human sunshine, but she's also messed up from a previous relationship and she's not worked through any of that, so it's been passed on to her daughters. I don't think I've seen or read anything that captures that female relationship between mothers and daughters so warmly," the actress revealed.
Film Club airs on BBC Three at 10pm on Tuesday, 7 October. Episodes are also available on BBC iPlayer.
