All Creatures Great and Small star Callum Woodhouse has disclosed that "emotional distress" lies in store for his character Tristan Farnon.

The beloved Channel 4 drama has recently made its comeback, and whilst the conflict is drawing to a close, its impact continues to reverberate through everyday existence in Darrowby.

Tristan struggles to adapt back to civilisation living during his time off, and actor Callum has disclosed what viewers can anticipate.

Speaking about developments for his character in series six, he said: "Tristan has been back on the front line over the last four years – he spent some time in Italy.

"Without giving too much away, I'd say he's had a more traditional experience of war, let's put it that way.", reports the Manchester Evening News.

"In the last series, there was this whole storyline with Siegfried [Farnon] suspecting that Tristan might have had a bit of a cushy time because he was talking about bars and going out drinking but this time, it's been a bit more harrowing.

"There's definitely an undercurrent of emotional distress that he carries throughout the series and that's something that is explored as the story unfolds."

Tristan's role draws inspiration from real-life figure Brian Sinclair, and Callum has previously discussed researching the celebrated veterinarian's history.

When asked about the prospect of a Tristan Farnon spin-off, he replied: "That would be cool, I would do that - go to Egypt and Italy."

The actor showed keen enthusiasm for delving into Brian Sinclair's time with the Royal Army Veterinary Corps and his professional life beyond the veterinary practice.

He remarked: "I think the series is potentially deviating slightly from the real history. I could have numerous spin-offs."

The third instalment of series six broadcasts on October 16, with its synopsis stating: "Helen struggles when Jenny receives exciting news, Tristan doubts himself when he tries to fit in to Charlotte's world and Siegfried has an encounter with a troublesome goat."

Callum is most recognised for his role as Leslie Durrell across all four series of ITV's comedy-drama The Durrells.

He additionally portrayed Josh Marsden in the ITV comedy-drama Cold Feet.

All Creatures Great and Small airs on Channel 5 on Thursdays at 9pm
