Newcastle United continued their defence of their Carabao Cup crown with a 2-0 win over Spurs at St. James' Park.
Redknapp told Sky Sports: "He had to manage it a bit as well [Eddie Howe] because of the Champions League this year. Maybe last week he could go in on most teams that he picked.
"Obviously not playing Guimaraes or Joelinton, but still having them on the bench, if needed, is key. I think that's where Liverpool came unstuck today.
"Not only have they picked a weak team, they didn't pick subs to come on and make a difference. He's [Howe] given this trophy the respect it deserves."
