Richard Gere has launched a furious new attack on Donald Trump, branding the former president one of several “bad guy leaders” responsible for driving the world into chaos. In a hard-hitting interview with Channel 4’s Krishnan Guru-Murthy, the Pretty Woman actor said: “The entire planet has fallen off a cliff into the stupid zone.” He continued: “The bad guys exploit the illusion of differences.

"Do we really think these refugees are different than us? Do you really believe what these clowns like Trump, Orban, Netanyahu, Putin, what these guys say? Or do you look at your heart and go: the world isn’t like that? If we can remove the stupid stuff that most of these bad guy leaders are dumping on us, and go back to whole we really are: profound kindness.” His latest remarks add to a long history of outspoken criticism against Trump and other right-wing leaders.

The actor, 76, has accused Trump of spreading fear, authoritarianism and cruelty since his first term in office — comments that have only intensified since the Republicans’ return to power in 2025.

In an October 2025 interview with Spanish outlet Europa Press, Gere described Trump as “not only crazy, he’s a dark, dark presence” and claimed he had “almost destroyed" The United States within the first six months of his second term. “Six months, he’s almost destroyed our country,” he said.

Earlier this year, while accepting a lifetime achievement award at Spain’s Goya Awards, Gere again blasted the American leader, calling him a “bully and a thug".

He told the audience: “I’m coming from a place now that we’re in a very dark place in America, where we have a bully and a thug who is the president of the United States.”

The actor warned that authoritarianism was spreading “everywhere,” adding: “We have to be vigilant. We have to be alert. We have to be energetic. We have to be brave. We have to be courageous.

"And everyone who’s watching this — in the Spanish-speaking world and elsewhere — we have to be willing to stand up, tell the truth, be honest. And there’s a place in all of our lives for basic kindness, for basic love and understanding.”

Gere, who moved to Madrid in 2024 with his wife Alejandra Silva, has long been known for his humanitarian and spiritual causes.

A vocal supporter of refugees, he previously labelled Trump’s refugee policy his “biggest crime,” saying it “conflated the meaning of refugees and terrorists.”

He also took aim at those surrounding Trump, adding: “The millionaire clowns surrounding Trump are immature and narcissistic, a deadly mix.”
