A major update is set to be made on the Royal Family website within hours following Friday’s announcement. On October 17, it was confirmed that Prince Andrew will no longer use his Duke of York title as a result of continued accusations made against him linked to his past friendship with the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
While the prince, 65, continues to deny the accusations, he said they have distracted people from the work of the Royal Family, with this believed to be the reason why he has dropped his royal titles. Although he is currently named as Duke of York on the Royal Family website, this is set to change within hours and is instead likely to simply refer to Andrew as Prince Andrew.
This is because he is still a prince by birthright.
In Andrew’s statement on Friday, the prince said: “In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.
“I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first.
“I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.
"With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me."
