A spine-chilling new Netflix documentary series has just landed on the platform and is reportedly leaving viewers too scared to watch.

The five-part series True Haunting dropped just this week and has already become a massive hit amongst subscribers.

At the time of writing, it has climbed to become the third most popular programme on the streaming giant.

This places it just behind the latest instalment of WWE Raw and Monster: The Ed Gein Story.

According to Netflix's official synopsis, the documentary series hails from "acclaimed master of horror James Wan" who "brings his chilling cinematic vision to real supernatural stories."

Wan is the creative force best recognised as the co-creator behind the Saw and Insidious film franchises, reports the Mirror.

He also helmed The Conjuring and Fast and Furious 7, whilst penning the screenplays for M3GAN and its upcoming sequel alongside The Nun.

Throughout True Haunting's episodes, two genuine cases are explored through witness interviews combined with dramatic reconstructions of the events.

The opening case chronicles the experience of Chris Di Cesare, who begins sensing an otherworldly presence around him.

This triggers an inexplicable feeling of terror that seems to be intensifying with each passing day.

After turning to a mate for assistance, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren are ultimately called upon to tackle the disturbing situation.

Some viewers may recognise those names, as their real-life investigations formed the foundation for The Conjuring movie series. The programme's second case unfolded between 2004 and 2006.

A young family relocated to a larger property, only to uncover it was concealing a sinister history and they discovered themselves tormented by something determined to drive them out.

There aren't many reviews available online for the programme as yet, but one critic describes it as a "thrilling experience to watch."

They continued: "True Haunting, unlike many other horror TV shows and movies does not focus on the quick jump scares. This series adopts a more chilling route."

Viewers have already flocked to social media platforms to express their opinions on the series.

This includes numerous discussion threads on Reddit.

One user wrote: "The dramatisation element very much pushes the horror element (with some pretty good scenes) and it tells a good story. I'm a sceptic, but I love ghost stories so I enjoy it."

Meanwhile, another person shared on X: "I've been waiting for True Haunting to come on Netflix cause I love shows like that but now I'm scared to watch it lmaooooo.

"Welcoming the spooky season I highly recommend you guys to tune in to true haunting on Netflix. A docuseries about just your average joe and jane who experienced unfathomable happenings that made you wonder ' are they real'. It's been a while since I felt a chill out of the screen."

One viewer remarked: "The second story was terrifying, it gave me goosebumps". Another confessed: "Same! I'm still spooked, going to sleep with the light on!"

True Haunting is streaming on Netflix.
