Several areas of a major royal residence have been closed after weather warnings were issued around the UK. Severe winds have forced parts of Windsor Great Park to shut to the public, an area which is hugely popular with dog walkers.

A pop-up message displayed on the Windsor Great Park website reads: "With a yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office, and following our severe weather plan, we have taken the decision to close a number of areas of Windsor Great Park and its facilities on Thursday 23 October 2025."

Yellow warnings for rain and wind have been issued for the whole Windsor area.

The full list of areas of the estate shut today are the Virginia Water South car park, Wick Road (Members only) car park and Ranger’s Gate car park.

The Adventure Play and The Savill Garden attractions are also closed, along with the south side of Virginia Water Lake between Virginia Water Pavilion and Blacknest Gate.

Four pedestrian gates have also been affected: Wick Lane corner gate, Blay’s Lane gate, Cheesman’s gate and Virginia Water plantation gate.

The closure of areas of the Park comes after protestors gathered outside Prince Andrew's Royal Lodge residence yesterday following the revelation that he has only paid a "peppercorn" rent "if demanded" for the last 22 years. Activists gathered outside the gates of Royal Lodge with megaphones and a yellow sign which read: “What are you hiding? Royal Epstein inquiry now.”

The ongoing scandal was mentioned in the Commons yesterday when York Central MP Rachael Maskell set out legislation which would allow King Charles to formally strip Prince Andrew of his Dukedom.

The proposed new law would give His Majesty the power to remove titles on his own initiative, following a recommendation of a joint committee of Parliament, or at the request of the person who holds the title.

Ms Maskell said: “It is time for Parliament to act so that it can, or the monarch can, remove titles. The Duke of York title may no longer be being used by its holder, but it has not been removed. My short Bill, The Removal of Titles Bill, will fix this; I hope it can now be supported by Parliament.”
