Netflix's Victoria Beckham documentary has catapulted the Spice Girls back into the spotlight, with countless fans wondering why their girl power reign came to such an abrupt halt.
Victoria Beckham might be better known for her fashion empire these days, but her rise to stardom kicked off as Posh Spice in the legendary 1990s girl band the Spice Girls.
Alongside Emma Bunton, Melanie B, Geri Halliwell Horner and Mel C, the quintet achieved genuine global conquest, shifting millions of albums and raking in an eye-watering $500 million before their 1998 split.
Reflecting on the devastating impact of the group's demise in the Netflix series, Victoria revealed: "I went from being up here with the Spice Girls, being on tour, travelling the world.
"Everything was so fast. We were like a tornado. And then, all of a sudden, it stopped.
"When the Spice Girls finished, it was so extreme. One minute, I'm spreading the word of girl power, and then the next minute I'm a wife in a flat in Manchester, not really having any friends, living a long way away from my family.
"And I found that transition really, really difficult."
Fractures began appearing within the Spice Girls when it emerged that Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell Horner had abandoned the band in 1998.
She confessed years afterwards in the documentary Giving You Everything: "I felt I didn't belong any more.
"They didn't need me any more, really, and I definitely felt very redundant."
Mel B revealed on Larry King Now that her exit was "bad", particularly as Geri had departed on Scary Spice's birthday and "didn't tell anybody".
Despite Geri's departure, the Spice Girls pressed on with their Spiceworld tour and laid down tracks for their album Forever.
However, this marked merely the start of their decline as each member began prioritising their individual careers and personal lives, ultimately prompting the group to announce a break in 2000.
The band did reunite for their Reunion tour in 2007 before delivering their swan song at the 2012 Olympic Games' closing ceremony.
During one performance on their Reunion tour, Geri acknowledged her role in initiating the group's breakdown and offered an apology.
Addressing both her bandmates and the crowd, Geri declared: "I need to say something I should have said a long time ago.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry I left. I was just being a brat. It is so good to be back with the girls that I love."
Nevertheless, there doesn't seem to be any bad blood between the former bandmates as Geri, Emma and Mel C all attended the Netflix premiere of Victoria Beckham's documentary.
The only Spice Girl not in attendance was Mel B, also known as Scary Spice.
The reason why she wasn't able to be there in person is unclear but Victoria took to Instagram to share the bunch of good luck flowers that Mel sent prior to the night, with the fashion designer posting thank you "kisses".
Victoria Beckham is available to watch on Netflix.
