Strictly Come Dancing contestant La Voix caught Claudia Winkleman off guard when she made a public plea to take her job during Saturday night's episode.

Claudia, 53, and Tess, 56, shocked fans this week as they announced they were stepping down from presenting the dance competition on Thursday.

The iconic duo made history as the BBC's first female presenting duo, but revealed that the current series will be their last, after making a pact to walk away together.

But just hours after the shock news, speculation over who would replace them went into overdrive, with a slew of big names having their hats thrown into the ring for the prized TV job.

And Drag Race UK star La Voix made sure she was at the front of the queue on, as she took the opportunity to beg Claudia for her job, live on air.

She closed out the show with partner Aljaž Skorjanec, transforming into Cher to perform a Salsa to the icon's hit Strong Enough.

And waiting in the Clauditorium ahead of her performance, she was quick to ask the host a quick favour, while the cameras were rolling.

As Claudia teased her upcoming dance as Cher for Icons Week, La Voix cut in: 'Claudia, while I’ve got you, do you know the address when you send your CV to the BBC?

'Just in case any new jobs are coming up. I'm just asking for a friend.'

A laughing Claudia grabbed La Voix's hand and led her over to the centre of the shot to take a turn, saying: 'Give it a go babe, let's do it now.'

And showing off her quick wit, La Voix hilariously just uttered a single word: 'Tess' to hand over the main studio, causing the entire room to burst into laughter.

As a giggling Claudia wrapped the performer in a hug, an equally amused Tess praised: 'Perfect'.

While viewers at home were similarly left in stitches by the moment and took to social media to declare La Voix would be 'the perfect replacement' and a 'national treasure in the making.'

They gushed: 'La Voix has the personality & humour to be one of the new Strictly presenters!'; 'La Voix is pure entertainment. Everything she does/says is gold.'

Opening the show on Saturday night, Tess and Claudia addressed fans for the first time since announcing their departure.

Tess began: 'Just before we get started tonight, Claud and I announced this week that this will be our last series of Strictly Come Dancing.'

As the audience erupted, Claudia continued: 'We want to thank you for your beautiful messages. We've got another eight weeks on this incredible show and a Strictly champion to crown.'

Tess concluded: 'And we cannot wait to spend the rest of the series with you, with our amazing couples and these four [the judges].'

In a joint statement shared on Instagram on Thursday, the co-hosts said they would be leaving the show together.

Their last appearance together will be on the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special, which airs on December 25.

The announcement has shocked fans and left experts pondering if Claudia and Tess' joint departure at the end of series 23 is a sign they are fleeing a 'sinking ship'.

Speaking to the camera as they announced their Strictly exits, Claudia began: 'There have been some rumblings and we want you to hear this from us.'

Tess chimed in: 'We have news, after 21 wonderfully joyful years on Strictly, we have decided that the time is right to step aside and pass over the baton.'

'The very sparkly baton!' Claudia laughed, before turning to her co-star and pal to add: 'You've been here since the beginning.'

Tess replied, pointing to Claudia: 'With Bruce, lovely Bruce [Forsyth], and that was over two decades ago but a lot of the time has been with you.

'It's been a huge part of our lives since our children were literally babes in arms, and now they're adults, and I think genuinely we have cherished every second.'

Claudia continued: 'We have, we're so lucky to have been part of this amazing show and we just want to thank the Strictly team, because Strictly is the people who make it.'

The duo penned under the video: 'We have loved working as a duo and hosting Strictly has been an absolute dream.

There's no doubt whoever replaces the duo is going to have big shoes to fill., with some of the top names in telly reportedly up for the primetime gig, which will begin at the start of the next series in 2026

'We were always going to leave together and now feels like the right time. We will have the greatest rest of this amazing series and we just want to say an enormous thank you to the BBC and to every single person who works on the show.

'They’re the most brilliant team and we’ll miss them every day. We will cry when we say the last “keep dancing” but we will continue to say it to each other.

'Just possibly in tracksuit bottoms at home while holding some pizza.'

Former This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby is among a slew of presenters tipped to front the series from next year.

Hannah Waddingham is a new big name to have been thrown into the mix, as she joins the likes of Rylan Clark and Zoe Ball who are already acquainted with the show.

Zoe would make a natural fit for the gig as she is well acquainted with the show thanks to her old presenting role on its spin-off, It Takes Two.

While fellow It Takes Two host Rylan has also seen his name rising high in the odds, with bookies speculating his shining personality could put him in the running to front the show.

Fans are already speculating that it could, at long last, be the return of Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, to make another all-female line up.

But husband and wife TV couples have always been popular and in recent years Emma and Matt Willis have proved they are a leading the pack.

While Alan Carr has also proved to be a heavy favourite, with fans suggesting his partner in crime could be pal Amanda Holden, or fellow Traitors stars Paloma Faith or Joe Marler.
