Former Strictly Come Dancing professional James Jordan has hinted that Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman's exit could have come from BBC bosses. On Thursday (October 23), the presenting duo announced that they are leaving the dance show after 21 wonderful years at the helm. The pair took to Instagram, where they shared the devastating news in a short video, explaining that it was the right time to pass on the "sparkly baton."
Now, professional ballroom dancer Jordan has hinted that the decision may not have come from the presenters, but rather from BBC bosses above. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk with Freebets.com - the home of the best betting sites – where he works as the entertainment betting expert, he warned that such a sudden announcement could have come from elsewhere.
He told us: "It's come as a massive shock, and they were always so lovely to me and Ola, so it's a shame. Who's going to replace them? I mean, they've got some very big shoes to fill.
"Has it been their decision to leave? Has it been the BBC's decision? We don't know that it could be that they were asked to leave. You don't know the real reasons behind it, maybe we'll never know. All I know is it's a shame."
The broadcaster went on to reassure fans that their departure does not mean the end for the show. He added: "It’s a real shame, but at the same time, people are probably going to say, ‘Oh, is that the end of Strictly?’ No, I don’t think so. I think it’s such a great format, it’s still going to work, it’s just quite a shock that they’re both going together.”
"Maybe the show needs a bit of a freshen up, a bit of a reboot because it has been 21 years, but we'll have to wait and see." The TV star went on to reveal some of the big names who have been “thrown about” to replace the dynamic duo next year.
The dad-of-one added: “Who’s going to replace them? I mean, they’ve got big shoes to fill. I’ve literally been on the phone all morning, from when it happened, and a few names were thrown about, but I think they really need to sit down and think about it because it’s such a big replacement. This is something that can’t be taken too lightly.”
Jordan went on to suggest some presenters who he believes would be a good fit for the role and those who are “too obvious” to take on the show. The dad-of-one revealed: “Presenters that I love, like Bradley Walsh, they would be great, but is he right for Strictly? I don’t know.
“I mean, other names were thrown into the mix like Rylan [Clark] and Stacey Dooley, but these are names which I think are quite predictable. Rylan’s been on the show, and Stacey won the show. I think they need to think outside the box, that’s just my opinion. Bring someone on to freshen it up, someone with good humour. I think the show needs the humour.
“So it’s hard, it’s really hard. I mean, Vernon Kay is someone who comes to mind. I think he’s an underrated presenter, but I don’t know who the right person for the job is. They’ve got their work cut out replacing them, especially because both of them are going together; they’re very big shoes to fill."
Tess and Claudia will certainly be going out with a bang as they revealed their plans for one last waltz around the infamous BBC dancefloor. In their exit video, Daly teased: "We can't wait to do that show dance that we have long dreamt of" while Winkleman joked she would just "watch from the sides".
Their final show will be during the Christmas Day special, which will air on Christmas Day on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Fans will have to stay tuned to see who will take over the prestigious hosting gigs in 2026.
