An actor and bodybuilder who worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger has died aged 42. Varinder Singh Ghuman is said to have died in hospital after he had a heart attack while being treated for a shoulder injury. The hospital where he was receiving treatment, Fortis Escorts Hospital, New Delhi, India, has since released a statement.
It reads: "Varinder Singh Ghuman was evaluated in the OPD on Monday October 6 for pain and restricted movement in his right shoulder. Following clinical assessment, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair with biceps tenodesis was advised. The patient had no known comorbidities.
"At approximately 3:35pm, the patient developed a sudden cardiac arrhythmia. The anaesthesia, cardiology, cardiac anaesthesia, and critical care teams immediately initiated advanced resuscitation measures.
"Despite sustained and coordinated efforts, the patient could not be revived and was declared dead at 5:36pm."
Ghuman first gained fame after he won the title of Mr India in 2009, before he finished runner-up at Mr Asia contest. His achievements in the bodybuilding industry was noticed by Hollywood legend Arnold Schwarzenegger, who then hired him to promote his health products in Asia.
He was considered to be one of the world's first vegetarian, professional bodybuilders. He had built a successful career which had spanned more than a decade.
He also gained recognition in the acting industry and appeared in a number of films between 2012 and 2023, with his latest being him in the role of Shakeel in Tiger 3.
Tributes have poured in for the fitness expert, as one fan branded it a "black day for bodybuilding" upon hearing about his death. Another said: "RIP legend."
Many other messages poured in, with fans posting broken heart emojis, while others shared how "heartbreaking" the news was, and others said: "Miss you," to the late star.
