7. Dan Walker
Though Dan Walker left the BBC in 2022 and moved to Channel 5, he was a regular face on Breakfast back when I was watching it almost daily. I watched him compete in Strictly Come Dancing and present more than 500 episodes of Football Focus, and struggled to fathom why he was such a golden child of the BBC.
Though much more personable than his replacement Jon Kay, Dan’s presenting style was sometimes so cheesy I had to physically look away from the screen. Dan – who was earning a salary of £260,000 a year at the time – insisted he drove himself to work, but BBC rules suggested his 3:45am trips could be funded by his employer.
