Amanda Owen disclosed the constant question she's asked by fans while appearing on James Martin's Saturday Morning.
The Yorkshire Dales farmer, 51, featured on the ITV programme to discuss her busy life at Ravenseat Farm in the Yorkshire Dales alongside her nine children - Raven, Reuben, Miles, Edith, Violet, Sidney, Annas, Clementine, and Nancy - whom she co-parents with former spouse Clive Owen.
Speaking with presenter James Martin regarding her greatest surprise about agricultural work, Amanda confessed: "I think the biggest shock, I suppose really, has been how you can put so much of your life and soul into something and how much, even these days, it's very much misunderstood.
"How something that takes so much out of you and requires such an amount of knowledge to work the land but it's still very much overlooked.
"People look to the fields and they don't know what they're really seeing. It was that translation.", reports the Mirror.
Discussing how agricultural labour cultivates appreciation and comprehension of food production, as one discovers the manufacturing process and the challenges involved in cultivation, Amanda continued: "Quite often someone will say to me, 'well, you know, do you eat your own animals?' and I will say 'yes'.
"And they'll be quite surprised by that. I say, 'How can I give you confidence in what you're putting on your plate? If I didn't have the confidence, it should be the opposite way around.'"
Reflecting on her upbringing before farm life, Amanda said: "Huddersfield born and bred. So definitely, definitely not countryside at all. It was all sort of a giant learning curve, shall we say."
She added: "I feel like my goth period was maybe my rebellion and then when I realised that everybody else was doing exactly the same thing and being a goth, I thought, 'how else can I rebel?' So instead, I headed for the wilds, into the hills!"
The Yorkshire shepherdess regularly updates her 544,000 Instagram followers with glimpses of daily life at Ravenseat Farm in the Yorkshire Dales, where she raises her nine children.
Amanda has also penned her own series of books and discussed her latest release, Christmas Tales From The Farm, during Saturday's programme.
The family's beloved documentary series, Our Yorkshire Farm, came to an end in 2022 after Amanda and Clive separated.
The Owen family have since launched a new programme, Our Farm Next Door, which chronicles their journey restoring a historic farmhouse in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales.
James Martin's Saturday Morning continues on ITV and ITV X.
