Celebrity Traitors' Joe Marler has apparently been tipped for TV success after impressing BBC bosses on the show.

The rugby star has been a hit with viewers, and now he is reportedly being lined up for a top presenting role, reports the Mirror.

Joe has made for great viewing over the course of the hit series, with fans gripped as he tried to root out Traitor Jonathan Ross, who has now been banished from Ardross Castle.

In the penultimate episode of the programme he called out comedian Alan Carr and singer Cat Burns for being Traitors which, if he could prove it, could see him with the whole thing and clinch the £100,000 cash prize.

According to the Mail, BBC executives have had an eye on the sports star throughout the series to see how he would go down with viewers.

A TV insider said: "The BBC is constantly looking for new talent and the second he stopped playing rugby, there were eyes on him.

"Bosses knew that getting him on Traitors would be a very good shop window for him and they could test whether or not the viewers would like him. As soon as they saw it, they knew he would be someone the British public would adore and they seem to be right."

They added that at the same time, Joe is ready to do something new after retiring from his sport and hanging up his rugby boots.

"He has long wanted to present from a BBC sofa and The One Show is one of his favourite programmes," they said. "To anchor that would be his dream."

Meanwhile, Joe, who has four children with his wife Daisy, recently told his podcast listeners that he was stepping away from that after five years.

He wrote on Instagram: "Alright you lovely lot, so it's time for me to say goodbye – or maybe see you later. After a lot of chats, laughs and the odd awkward silence, my time on Things People Do has come to an end."

Joe went on: "I'll still be out there somewhere, probably in my garden, probably annoying Daisy and the kids - but for now, this chapter closes."

The BBC has been approached for comment.
