The World at One presenter, 59, attended Guernsey's independent Blanchelande College and is married to a baronet.
But she said that class is still an issue that needs to be addressed internally.
Ms Montague, who joined the BBC in 1997 and went on to present Radio 4's Today for 18 years before moving to host The World at One in 2018, discovered that she was earning far less than her male colleagues, including John Humphrys, leaving her 'incandescent with rage'.
She went on to win the significant out-of-court settlement in 2019, after what she described as a 'long period of stressful negotiations'.
Despite the large payout, Ms Montague, who also co-hosts news podcast Figuring It Out, said she had only ever wanted recognition that she had been underpaid.
Speaking to the Radio Times, Ms Montague said: 'The next struggle within the BBC is class.
'Whether you went to Oxbridge or not is less of an issue, but class still has to be addressed.'
And former BBC Breakfast presenter Steph McGovern has also previously claimed there is a class pay disparity at the corporation, telling the Sunday Times in 2018: 'It's not as simple as a gender issue, it's partly down to class.'
