US President Donald Trump has been dealt a devastating blow during the US governor races. CNN issued an urgent news alert as the current status of the elections was analysed. A breakdown of the current predictions were put up on the screen, with the New Jersey and New York and Virginia being highlighted, as all three saw the Democrat candidates being clearly ahead in the polls.

CNN data analyst Harry Enten predicted that the three would be a clean sweep in a huge blow to Trump. Bianna Golodryga said to Harry: "So when we're looking at races, you're looking at New York, you're looking at New Jersey, you've got Virginia, so much attention is being paid to these three races. What is happening? How many of these races are actually a test to Donald Trump? How much of it is about the races themselves and what is happening in those areas?"

Harry replied: "I mean, if they're a test of Donald Trump, then Trump can't be too happy with what we're seeing in the data right now. You talk about New Jersey and what we see there, I know a lot of Republicans would like to see Jack Chaterelli closing the gap, but in all honesty, what we can see is that the Democratic party have a clear advantage.

"And that's the closest of the three races. Spanberger is way up there, and Mamdani is ahead there by 16 points. At this point in time, and granted, we'll have to see what happens on the voting day, it seems like the Democrats are most likely going to sweep all three of those races, and that is in part because of Trump, but in places like Virginia, it is because they have a much better-liked candidate than the Republicans."

The comments come as it has been reported that Trump has poured millions of dollars into the Virginia and New Jersey races to try and sway voters. It has been reported that each state will be getting a $1 million-plus microtargeting effort aimed at Trump supporters and other Republicans who usually skip off-year races.

However, the President has done very little public campaigning himself, showing his outward support for just one candidate: Attorney General Jason Miyares, who is viewed as the likeliest candidate on the GOP ticket to win.
