There was reportedly tension behind-the-scenes at Good Morning Britain as Susanna Reid snapped at her co-star. It has been a big week on the ITV programme as the presenters have been covering the lead up and aftermath of Rachel Reeves' Autumn Budget. However, during one of the show’s ad breaks this week, Susanna, 54, was allegedly left irritated by co-host Ed Balls. Studio onlookers claim Susanna "put Ed in his place" as the pair clashed over his planned approach for the next segment.
The pair have co-hosted Good Morning Britain together since 2023, but it's Susanna who wears the trousers in their working relationship. A source told The Sun: “They usually have a great relationship, but it’s clear Susanna wears the trousers. She’s an incredibly experienced and competent journalist and presenter who has been covering the budget for decades. Seeing as Ed is a former Shadow Chancellor, budget week is like Christmas to him.
“He loves feeling like he’s still at the heart of government and balancing the books, but forgot he’s in Susanna’s territory now and she rules the roost."
The insider added: "Ed got carried away and was soon put in his place by Susanna who helped keep them on track during a very busy news week."
Before becoming a presenter, Ed, 58, was a member of the Labour Party, serving as Education Secretary from 2007 to 2010 and as Shadow Chancellor from 2011 to 2015.
Having been married to Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper since 1998, his relationship and past career in politics often lands him in hot water with Good Morning Britain viewers.
The ITV host has been accused of bias twice this week alone, following interviews with Green Party leader Zack Polanski and Rachel Reeves.
Merely seconds into his interview with the Chancellor, Good Morning Britain was flooded with complaints as fans called out the programme for allowing the former Labour Party member to conduct the interview.
One fumed: "#GMB Ed Balls should not be interviewing his wife’s colleague who she sat next to on the front bench yesterday; he is an ex-Labour Chancellor and is pro Reeves agenda. He’s biased."
Another agreed: "I like Ed Balls, but he literally just said to Rachel Reeves, great Budget, just shame it was leaked. If that's not biased broadcasting, I'm not sure what is! #GMB."
Slamming the show, a third added: "How can, with any credibility, @GMB question the Chancellor of the Exchequer when the wife of one of the presenters was sat next to her on the front bench in the commons yesterday. It’s farcical."
