Michelle Heaton was left "absolutely gutted" after she burned her dish on Celebrity MasterChef.

The Liberty X singer is one of the stars competing in the latest series of the BBC show, alongside Love Island's Chris Hughes, author Dawn O'Porter, soul legend Jaki Graham and actor Jamie Lomas.

While preparing a halloumi burger with sweet chilli jam and sweet potato fries, disaster struck as she left her sweet potatoes in the oven for too long, resulting in them being burnt to a crisp, reports Wales Online.

"Oh, no!" she exclaimed as she held her head in her hands. "I actually can't believe it. Burned my sweet potato fries."

Dawn, who had won an extra 10 minutes cooking time in an earlier taste challenge, offered to give her additional time to Michelle. However, judge Grace Dent told her: "I am sorry, but you can't."

Despite the setback, Michelle refused to admit defeat and quickly prepared some small sweet potato cubes to serve up instead.

"I am absolutely gutted," she admitted as she set about cooking the new side dish.

Judge John Torode noted her mishap as she presented her dish, saying: "You had a bit of a disaster."

"I had a massive one," she agreed, but he praised her resilience, telling her: "You picked yourself up and you went and sorted it out. That's what MasterChef is all about, Michelle. Good on you."

The songstress received some positive feedback for her food, with John remarking that the halloumi was "cooked really nicely".

However, he felt her brioche bun was "on the edge of too sweet".

Reflecting on the experience afterwards, Michelle shared that the mishap had left her feeling emotional.

But she said: "I am feeling OK considering I had a massive disaster. I was about to cry, but I didn't, because I usually do. And I just ploughed on.

"And I'm really, really happy that I did, because I learned something about myself."

Celebrity MasterChef airs on BBC One.
