The retired cemetery superintendent died just ten minutes after arriving at a hospital in Paralimni, a town within the Famagusta district of Cyprus on the island's east coast.

Yvonne, from Oldham, Greater Manchester, told the Sun: 'The doctor came out of the room and said: "He’s dead".'

A pathologist conducted a post-mortem, she was told, but when Michael's body was flown to the UK, officials noted that no cause of death was written on the certificate.

It meant another post-mortem was required by the coroner’s office in Rochdale.

Yvonne said: 'They said someone had removed Michael’s heart and so they cannot determine a cause of death.'

'I was so shocked,' she added.

'It was horrible.'
