Nice players Jeremie Boga and Terem Moffi are currently on sick leave after an attack by their own fans caused them to take legal action, according to a report.
When the Nice team bus arrived back at the club's training ground on Sunday night after the side's 3-1 defeat by Lorient, around 400 angry supporters were there waiting for the players and staff.
According to Truibuna, Boga and Moffi were punched, kicked and spat on, with some of the blows said to be to their genitals. There are also said to have had racist slurs thrown their way - Moffi played 90 minutes in the game, while Boga came off the bench.
It is reported that Boga has been put on leave for five days, while Moffi will be out of action until next Sunday. The latter reportedly needed the help of goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf to get into the training ground.
The players had been warned of a hostile reception when they left the airport for their training ground, yet still opted to head back to the venue.
When they arrived, two fan representatives were allowed onto the bus to air their grievances at the team's poor form, but things took a dark turn as they exited.
It is reported that Boga was attacked because he invited Marseille fans to the stadium earlier this month - who later allegedly mocked home supporters - while Moffi was allegedly seen laughing with former Lorient present Loic Remy after the defeat on Sunday.
Boga, formerly of Chelsea, had angered Nice fans with the move earlier this month, and wrote in a statement after: 'At no time, believe me, was it my intention to show disrespect toward Nice supporters. However, I understand the disappointment this may have caused. To all those I may have hurt, I offer my apologies.'
Sporting director Florian Maurice is also said to have been attacked, despite security being present.
There had been concerns that security was not up to the required standard on the day, with the club holding crisis talks on Monday.
The club is owned by Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and is currently 10th in Ligue 1 after six consecutive defeats.
They finished fourth last season, with manager Franck Haise failing to get a tune out of his players.
Nice have refused to comment amid ongoing police investigations, but did say in a statement: 'On Sunday, upon their return from Lorient, the Eagles were welcomed in front of the Training and Development Centre by a large gathering.
'The club understands the frustration generated by the succession of poor performances and performances far removed from its values.
'However, the incidents that occurred during this gathering are unacceptable. Several club members were targeted. OGC Nice offers them its full support and condemns these acts in the strongest possible terms.'
