Last month, Meghan Markle found herself at the centre of another royal storm when behind-the-scenes details from her interview with Harper’s Bazaar magazine were leaked. We previously reported that Kate Middleton had been hoping to finally put the now infamous royal rift behind them by bringing Harry home for Christmas, and an insider tells us that the Princess of Wales, 43, has been left feeling ‘sad’ that it’s not going to happen.
The driving factor behind Harry’s much-hoped for festive return, we’re told, was Kate’s Christmas wish that he and her husband Prince William, 43, would finally put almost six years of bitterness behind them once and for all and welcome the spirit of Christmas present.
An insider says, ‘Kate hates that things are so ugly between William and Harry, she says it literally keeps her up at night. She feels like it’s this cloud hanging over everything, even if William won’t admit that it’s tormenting him, she can see that it is.
‘She completely understands his perspective but at the same time she empathizes with Harry in a way very few people inside the family do.
‘She knows it’s been hard for him to make all these trips back to London without his wife and children, she feels genuinely sad that he’s going through that. Kate feels for him, she says she can only imagine how isolated he must feel so far away.’
While Princess Eugenie has visited Harry and Meghan in Montecito, where they live with their two children – Archie, six, and Lilibet, four – his and Meghan’s explosive tell -ll interviews and his memoir, Spare, have left the Sussexes all but estranged from his family.
But King Charles’ cancer diagnosis last year appears to have prompted a huge shift, with Harry reuniting with his father, who continues to receive treatment, in September in what has been called a secret ‘peace summit’.
Yet so far William hasn’t budged and is said to remain ‘furious’ at the damage Harry has caused to the reputation of the Crown.
But now, instead of giving up, we’re told how Kate is determined to finally ‘make peace’ with Harry – and the royal diary may just be on her side.

Last week, it was revealed by a source that Kate and William are planning to fly to America next 4th July to celebrate 250 years of Independence in the US. And the source says Kate sees their trip as the ‘perfect opportunity’ to put their toxic grudge behind them.
The only flaw in her plan is of course her husband, with William giving a less than positive response to her suggestion of a meeting.
‘She knows it's going to be an uphill battle getting William to agree to anything but she has months to work on him,’ the insider says.
‘She keeps saying enough is enough and that these grudges need to be put aside and she sees this trip as the perfect opportunity for it. She knows there are wounds on all sides, but she cannot stand the thought of this going on for another year. In some ways she’s in disbelief that things are still so terrible.’
And while the Sussexes’ plummeting popularity could undeniably be boosted by a joint appearance with the Waleses, who have proved incredibly popular stateside, the insider says extending an olive branch in public is ‘highly unlikely’.
‘It is highly unlikely the Sussexes will be invited to any of the official events that William and Kate will be attending,’ they tell us. ‘Instead Kate is hoping that they can do something very discreet, break bread with them and make peace.
‘She says she would even be willing to travel to Montecito just to finally get this over with once and for all, but that may be a bridge too far for William.’
However, for Kate, a trip to the US combined with a public offering of peace would be a ‘golden opportunity’ and allow them to finally relax and enjoy a break without any looming threats over the Sussexes’ next movements.
We’re told, ‘Kate has zeroed in on this trip to America as this golden opportunity. They’re going to be there to strengthen the ties between the UK and America and celebrate their long partnership.

‘They're also planning to take some time off, so they can enjoy some of the country's beauty. Kate’s hoping that will put William in a more forgiving mood. And the fact that this trip is all about goodwill does make it feel like the perfect time for reconciliation with Harry and Meghan.’
Poignantly, next month will also mark a year since Kate revealed she was in remission following her own battle with cancer.
And now the insider says she is on a ‘mission’ to put the past firmly behind her.
The source says, ‘She knows William has dug his heels in, but this isn’t something she can forget about. After her battle with cancer she’s on a mission to let go of bitterness and negativity wherever possible, she says it’s unhealthy.
‘She knows things have been said and done that cannot be taken back, but she believes in looking forward. She also accepts that a reconciliation between William and Harry will only work if Meghan approves.
‘Harry does not move without her backing. Kate understands that and she is willing to respect those boundaries if it will help bring the family back together.’
