Dua Lipa's £3million plans to build a mega basement complete with a swimming pool, music studio and cinema have still not been completed - six years after she bought it.

The singer, 30, who is back from her honeymoon, is going to have to wait a year to be carried over the threshold by her husband, Callum Turner, 36, with the work predicted to continue until July 2027.

The renovations on the dream London home which she bought in 2020 are of a scale and sensitivity which mean she's not getting in until next summer.

Dua's team started putting in planning applications in 2021 but work only started in 2024, once they finally had the green light.

Local conservation groups had complained about 'loss of green space', 'loss of trees', and 'drainage issues'.

Around 20 builders have been on the West Hampstead site ever since and have notified neighbours that they are expecting to finish in mid 2027.

Singer Dua Lipa is back from her honeymoon but she's going to have to wait to be carried over the threshold by Callum Turner, with work on her property predicted to continue until July 2027

The renovations on the dream London home which she bought in 2020 for £6.75million are of a scale and sensitivity which mean she's not getting in until next summer

The pop star is creating a huge gym, cinema, swimming pool and music studio – all underground.

It's a huge job - and it will be a further 13 months until it's complete.

Dua and Callum, who celebrated their wedding in Sicily earlier this month, are renting nearby in the meantime.

As part of the planning application agreement, all machinery and equipment has to be mounted with 'anti-vibration isolators'.

At 310 square metres, the renovations will be four times the size of the previous basement.

500 tonnes of soil has been excavated, and her team has to dig at least six metres under the surface without affecting 17 historic trees surrounding the property as subsidence and flooding is a serious concern for neighbouring homes.

The basement's top will be 'a biodiverse roof garden blanket on a biodegradable carrier, providing food and habitat for the local wildlife'.

Dua's team have done their best to appease neighbours and displayed a list of noise, dust and waste control measures, as well as contact details if anyone has a complaint stating that they are 'committed to minimising disruption to local residents and businesses during the construction works'.

Design expert Leigh Ann Raines says this sort of undertaking for an A-list star will cost £3million and involves some of London's finest designers and contractors.

'She could be investing £3million to make this a home that suits her needs. While expanding an existing home is always a lengthy process, excavation beneath an existing structure is much more involved than expanding out or up,' says Leigh Ann, creative director and founder of Chic By Design.

'In Dua's case, the construction team is following strict precaution not to disturb neighbours. They are employing manual methods and adapted tools to dig the basement, avoiding noise and vibration. This takes time. Rome was not built in a day!

'Any project involving structural changes takes time. I have led renovation projects that took over three years to complete.

'The number of decisions and collaboration required with all stakeholders and artisans is immense, down to the customised joinery built to display or store her belongings to lighting inside a drawer.

'No expense will be spared to ensure this will be a respite for Dua who works hard and needs a sanctuary to escape to during down time at home, or to be creative in the comfort of her home.'

Back in 2021, Dua applied for planning permission for the proposed works because the property lies in a designated conservation area but a local neighbourhood forum objected to the application.

While Dua and Callum are no doubt keen to finish the renovations at their London home, the newlyweds are set to spend the next few months in the States

In a letter to the council, secretary Nancy Mayo wrote in December 2021: 'The forum notes that the pre-application advice received is that the existing rear extension should not be demolished as it positively contributes to the character and appearance of the host dwelling.

'Boundary walls constructed from lava bricks (also known as clinker bricks) are a very important feature of the Conservation Area. The ivy-clad lava brick boundary walls are notable features of the streetscapes.

'The Forum objects to the felling of the willow tree and the re-building, or any potential harm, to the boundary walls.

'The Forum notes that this site is very close to the underground boundary stream and the spring line and that the willow tree may have been planted to address what could have been a soggy garden. A natural wildlife pond would therefore be entirely appropriate in such a location.

'Since the application does not appear to be compliant with all of the relevant Neighbourhood Plan policies, the Forum therefore wishes to object to the application.'

While Dua and Callum are no doubt keen to finish the renovations at their London home, the newlyweds are set to spend the next few months in the States.

Earlier this month, Callum revealed he had landed two back-to-back shoots that require him to work across the pond, but he wants Dua to be by his side.

The Bond frontman will first be filming a remake of the 1981 horror Possession, in which he will star alongside Margaret Qualley.

Up next is baseball film The Comebacker, in which Tom Hanks will play his pitching coach.

After revealing they are relocating, Callum mused: 'We work jobs where we have to go around the world.'

He added to The Hollywood Reporter: 'It's important when we are home in London to be with our friends as much as possible.

'We make sure that we're together as much as possible.'
