Popular soap Emmerdale appears poised to bid farewell to another long-standing cast member. Reports suggest that Jack Downham, who has portrayed Noah Dingle since the age of six, is preparing to depart the ITV soap opera after 17 years. According to The Sun, the actor has already completed filming his final scenes and is expected to bow out on screen within the coming weeks. The star will be the latest member of the Dingle family to be written out of the programme as part of cost-cutting initiatives.
A source told the publication that Jack is "looking at the positives though and is hopeful about future opportunities.. Daily Star has approached ITV for a comment.. The ITV show has a long-standing policy of not announcing most cast departures to avoid spoiling storyline outcomes. Noah is the son of Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and Chris Tate (Peter Amory) and has featured in numerous major storylines during that period. In total, the actor has appeared in more than 800 episodes of the programme.. Speaking to Inside Soap in 2021, Jack spoke about his experiences growing up on our screens."
When approached by Express, an Emmerdale spokesperson said: "We don't comment on cast contracts."
The ITV programme maintains a longstanding policy of not confirming most cast exits in advance to preserve storyline surprises. Noah is the son of Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and Chris Tate (Peter Amory) and has been involved in several significant storylines throughout his tenure. In total, the actor has featured in over 800 episodes of the show.
Speaking to Inside Soap in 2021, Jack reflected on his experience growing up in the public eye.
"I've loved it," he explained at the time. "It's quite strange to be around adults all the time, but I think it's helped me mature in a lot of ways.
"On the other hand, I've missed out on my fair share of events and things with friends my own age, but it's all part and parcel of having such a great opportunity."
He added: "The constant drama is a great part of it. There's always something going on. Plus, everyone who plays a part in the Dingle family is so nice to work with.
"I've definitely learnt so much from Emma (Atkins) and she's always looked after me."
A number of cast members have departed the long-running soap in recent months, with Jack set to join fellow Dingle family member Bradley Johnson, who plays Vinny, in making his exit.
Other notable departures this year include Nick Miles, who has portrayed Jimmy King for 22 years, and Dawn Taylor actress Olivia Bromley.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and from 7am on ITVX.
