Airport lounges provide a welcome refuge from the hustle and bustle of a chaotic terminal, taking your trip from mad to magical.

But not all lounges are created equally; some take things a step further and create a real experience for the traveller.

From incorporating local design or including regionally inspired food and beverages to welcoming passengers in with cinemas and spas, the list of luxury amenities is seemingly endless.

Here, the Daily Mail has compiled a list of some of the world's most impressive – time to book a trip?

Qatar Airways Al Safwa First Lounge

Swish and stylish: Qatar Airways Al Safwa First Lounge is first up on the list

Walking into Qatar Airways' Al Safwa First Lounge, you'd be forgiven for thinking you were at a luxurious art gallery. It takes inspiration from Doha's Museum of Islamic Art, with a sandstone finish and sleek touches.

If you have time to kill, you can enjoy many of the facilities: a cinematic media room, the Qspa – featuring nine treatment rooms – a hot tub or the exclusive Duty-Free section.

Dining is a highlight, and the 250-seat restaurant offers a choice of international gastronomy and Arabic-infused cuisine.

One Instagram account, @elitelayovers, wrote: 'Qatar's Al Safwa First Lounge feels more like a five-star hotel than an airport terminal. Private suites, fine dining, and architecture that looks straight out of a museum. Some layovers are just different.'

Lufthansa First Class Terminal

A step further: At Lufthansa's First Class Terminal, premium luxury is the order of the day

This is rather unique – not just a mere lounge, Lufthansa has its own exclusive First Class terminal, located half a kilometre from Terminal 1.

As you'd expect, drinks flow freely – bar manager Dennis Eichler says: 'Our bar invites you to linger. The feel-good atmosphere and our superb selection of drinks ensure that our guests can enjoy every moment of their stay – and that the time until departure flies by.'

There is also a cigar lounge, where you can also choose from more than 150 whiskies.

In quiet rooms, passengers can take a break and relax in a bath. Alternatively, there are five office units – perfect for business travellers.

A new work area, including a private booth for calls and private conversations, completes the range of services.

For complete privacy, La Première guests can reserve exclusive suites, each with a spacious living room, a bedroom with a double bed, a bathroom and a comfortable outdoor patio.

Awarded Skytrax’s first prize for the best first-class lounge dining experience in 2025, it celebrates the best of French cuisine through a menu designed by Alain Ducasse, who holds 21 Michelin stars.

Guests can enjoy the chef’s famous coquillettes with ham and black truffle, tasty seasonal vegetarian dishes, as well as a rum or Armagnac baba, made famous in Monte Carlo.
