A male star of Married at First Sight star was arrested on suspicion of rape on Thursday June 18. The man is not being named and nor is the alleged victim - anyone who makes an allegation of rape is entitled to anonymity by law. The arrest follows the broadcast of a BBC Panorama programme investigating the show. In it two female cast members alleged they had been raped while a third alleged she had been subjected to a non-consensual sex act. All three men involved denied the allegations. Channel 4 has since commissioned a review into contributor welfare on the show.

London’s Metropolitan Police launched a probe into the allegations after the documentary broadcast in May. They appealed for "anyone who believes they have been a victim of sexual assault" after participating on Married at First Sight UK to come forward. In a statement to BBC News, Met Police confirmed the arrest.

"This relates to an ongoing investigation, being led by the Met Police. He has since been bailed while enquiries remain ongoing," they said.

The Panorama investigation called The Dark Side of Married at First Sight, saw the women claim they should have had greater protection. Channel 4 said all the allegations are "wholly uncorroborated and disputed".

Channel 4 and CPL – the production company behind the series – said the welfare protocols were robust and comprehensive.

In a statement at the time, Channel 4 said: "We have not seen the programme and will comment when we know more."

In a statement sent to the Mirror, Priya Dogra, Chief Executive of Channel 4, said: "I want to express my sympathy to contributors who have clearly been distressed after taking part in Married at First Sight UK.

"The well-being of our contributors is always of paramount importance," she concluded.

The long running show, which was one of Channel 4's most popular, was removed from all streaming services after the allegations of sexual assault and rape.

Express.co.uk has contacted Channel 4 for comment.
