A young mother was killed when she was struck by a train on a German rail crossing as she pushed her two-year-old daughter to safety.
The 26-year-old woman, who has not yet been named, was walking her daughter in a pram across the tracks at a level crossing at Leingarten Mitte station, west of the German city of Heilbronn, on Saturday.
But she failed to see an oncoming regional express train, Bild reported.
In a final act of heroism, she was able to push the pram out of danger before the train collided with her.
She died at the scene of the incident, though her two-year-old daughter and the 43 passengers on the train survived.
Local police are investigating the matter, and looked into whether there was an issue with the signalling system.
But police spokesperson Frank Belz told the German newspaper: 'With the help of an expert, we have determined that both the audible and visual signals at the crossing were functioning correctly.'
However, it was reported that while all other railway crossings in the area have barriers or gates, the one that the mother used did not.

Police are now going to look at the train's black box, interview witnesses and commission an expert report on the matter.
Eyewitnesses told local media that the train driver pulled the emergency brake and sounded a warning signal.
A police spokesperson said: 'At the last moment, the woman pushed the stroller off the tracks, then she was hit by the train.'
