Severance viewers blast 'nonsense' Ms Cobel plot as star responds to fans over spoilers

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Severance season 2, episode 8 - Sweet Vitriol
Severance has left viewers of the Apple TV+ show puzzled with its latest plot twists. The episode saw Devon Scout, portrayed by Jen Tullock, persistently attempting to contact Ms Cobel, played by Patricia Arquette, for assistance with her unconscious brother Mark, played by Adam Scott.
Throughout the episode, Ms Cobel consistently ignored Devon's calls until the final moments when she answered while fleeing her hometown of Salt's Neck, presumably pursued by Lumon. Asal Reghabi, played by Karen Aldridge, departed from Mark's home in the previous episode after Devon mentioned she would be seeking help from Ms Cobel, reports the Mirror US.
However, this plot twist has frustrated many viewers who took to Reddit to express their irritation. One sarcastically wrote: "Yoooo, Ms Cobel. Hows it going, bestie? We haven't spoken since you pretended to be my midwife and so I trusted you with my baby only for you to abandon it and run away after my brother exposed you for being behind an elaborate brain-washing wife kidnapping scheme that stole my sister-in-law from me. Yeah, don't worry about that. Let me tell you about all the stuff we have been up to! [sic]".
Another responded: "Seriously. 0 credibility. So disappointed [sic]."
A third commented: "also feels like completely out of Devon's character... she protects Mark so hard and after knowing all this, nothing for cobel? nothing? ? ? really? [sic]."
One viewer commented: "It just doesn't make sense how Devon and Mark would be so trusting of Cobel right away [sic]."
Despite some scepticism over Devon's interaction with Ms Cobel, other questions arose about the episode, particularly regarding the former Lumon Severed floor manager's role in creating the chip.
One audience member posted: "I'm so confused. This seems like a strange and convenient plot point. What to you mean she had advanced neuroscientist level qualifications? How did she just come up with this?" Another fan speculated: "Reghabi being the inventor and then later regretting it, makes a lot more sense. Idk. One bad episode out of ten isn't too bad. Hopefully they stuck the landing [sic]."
However, another viewer noted: "Reghabi is way too young for that and also a secondary character which backstory has zero emotional draw, for now. Harmony being the inventor driven by grief is beautiful and not one Redditor saw that coming. But if you're not interested in seeing more of Patricia Arquette, I can't help you."
Another added: "I don't get the people saying that the only important part of this episode was the end of it. Cobel's grief is the whole point. The fact that it was grief that motivated the creation of the severance procedure is profoundly thematically important to the show and informative on pretty much everything that's been happening."
One viewer defended the storyline, suggesting: "I recommend reading the original screenplay for the pilot episode. (Before many things changed.) The reveal of Cobel being the mastermind - so to speak - will feel much less out of left field."
Severance star Arquette also previously interacted with fans on social media after one queried about the series' ending. "Will there be a honeymoon ending for mark? [sic]," the fan asked.
In character as Ms Cobel, the True Romance and Escape At Dannemora actress replied: "there will be no honey moon ending for anyone [sic]."
This came after Arquette shared a screenshot of a text conversation with a friend who expressed confusion about episode seven. Arquette simply responded: "Ok. Too Bad." Their friend retorted: "Damn you."
Arquette posted the text exchange on Instagram, captioning it: "This is how I treat my friends. #Cobel #ColdAsIce #ToughLuck #severence [sic]."
Another fan commented: "I have a lot of theories tho [sic]," to which Arquette humorously replied: "tell me them so I can lie to you [sic]."
With only two episodes remaining and more questions than answers, fans are eager to see what unfolds next.
Notably, Apple TV+ recently announced that Severance has overtaken Ted Lasso as the most-watched show on the streaming platform.
