BT Boss Allison Kirkby took home £2.5million in her first year as head of the telecoms giant.
She was awarded a £1.2million bonus on top of a base salary of £1.3million.
But that was lower than what her predecessor, Philip Jansen, was paid in his final year – £3.7million.
It is also significantly less than the amount Kirkby could earn under the executive pay plan – up to £6.8million if she hits her bonus targets and the shares rise 50 per cent.
Kirkby, 57, has pushed ahead with cost cuts, with the former state-owned telecoms group having announced plans to cut up to 55,000 jobs worldwide by 2030 and selling some businesses in other countries to refocus on Britain.
Investors have confidence in Kirkby. Since she took over the stock has risen by 71 per cent.
The payout comes as speculation mounts that BT could be mulling a bid for struggling Talk Talk, where finances are under pressure and customers are defecting.
