Katie Hopkins has come under fire after a controversial rant about the clash between US President Donald Trump and President Volodymyr Zelinsky in which she claimed the Ukrainian leader has "screwed" UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and other European heads.
The famously outspoken commentator spoke at length about Zelensky's behaviour during Friday's (February 28) visit to the White House. Claiming people have been sold a lie about the war in Ukraine in her lengthy analysis of the contentious meeting she also predicted Zelinsky would be back "grovelling like a weasel" to Trump.
"Zelensky is at the Oval Office. It's his one chance. It's his big chance. He'll be back there soon, grovelling like a little weasel, like a weasel. It's his one chance to have America work loosely with him," she said.
"He's supposed to be having a serious diplomatic meeting with the leader of the free world, and I'm so happy for whoever it was that pointed it out and said, 'Do you own a suit?' He disrespected Donald J Trump, and then he disrespected the Office of the President of the United States of America. And you don't do that in the Oval Office.
"I think what happened was he was there, and his actor, comedian, performer mode kicked in, because he was nervous. He knew he was on. He knew he knew he was looking like a t**t. He knows he hasn't got a leg to stand on. He knows he's just being played, and he's a hopeless case and so he went into show off mode - and I know that mode, obviously," she conceded.
"He started playing up. Worst thing he could have done. Then he got kicked out. And Trump's like: 'He's not ready to chat. He can p*** off. We don't need him', " as she added: "So he's had a nightmare."
Her lengthy rant continued: "He's also completely, which I love more than anything, screwed European leaders. He has screwed Keir Starmer because it's indefensible what he did.
"The idea was Zelensky goes in signs the deal. He's now delivering peace. Trumps is brokering the peace deal. Putin will sign up to it. And...Starmer gets to put boots on the ground...But that none of that can happen now," adding "because Trump has all the cards," she said.
However Katie's 1.1million followers didn't agree with her take on the events which have made international headlines. "Sorry Katie, I usually agree with what you have to say but don’t on this occasion. Has Trump or Vance experienced war like Zelensky has? The poor bloke has been through so much only to come out the other side and be on the receiving end of a new US President who cares nothing about the lives lost or sovereignty of Ukraine, only the Minerals he can acquire - the bullying I witnessed tonight was disgraceful shame on Trump and Vance. Please let us not forget the enemy - Vladimir Putin," one wrote in the comments.
Another fumed: "You have got no idea, we have Ukrainian friends and they are fighting for their lives. Zelensky was respectful and strong. Trump and JD Vance haven’t got a clue and didn’t give Zelensky a chance to speak, which shows that they are Putin sympathisers punting the Russian propaganda."
A third chimed in: "Katie I so wanted to follow you as I’ve agreed with many of your views but now your coming across biased towards Trump. I believe you will never call trump out, even as in this case, he is quite clearly wrong. And why?, just because you get off on powerful abusive men? What a shame Katie."
She also had supporters in the comments who agreed with her take on the issue. "I have lost count of the ‘middle aged’ women on fb giving it the ‘Zelenskyy has been bullied awfully, no one should be treated so awfully’ don’t like being told that the men and boys kidnapped off the streets on his orders to be put in the front lines to live a few hours are the real casualties of being treated awfully. None of them look further than Mainstream Media and FB," one commented.
Another said: "Hi Katie! Love you! Have none of these naysayers posting heard the phrase, "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer?" I have never heard so much naive twaddle in my life!"
