Sky News halted for Pope 'breaking news' as Vatican gives one-line statement

Sky News presenter Anna Jones interrupted the show to issue a breaking news update on Pope Francis, 88, from the Vatican.

She said live on air: "Let me just bring you some breaking news regarding the health of the Pope, who has been in hospital for over two weeks now with double pneumonia.

"The update from the Vatican is that 'the night was quiet' and the Pope is still resting".

"We often get a very brief update at exactly this time of the morning on the Pope's health and it follows on Friday, the Vatican announcing he had an isolated breathing crisis in hospital.

"Last night we got a bit more detail saying after that day, his condition was still complex but they hadn't had another crisis. And then this morning's update was that the night was quiet and the Pope is resting."

The news comes after the Pope suffered a "breathing crisis" on February 27, with the Vatican confirming he suffered a bronchial spasm, which caused him to breathe in vomit. He was given an oxygen mask on his nose and mouth for the first time, as his respiratory condition "suddenly worsened".
