US President Donald Trump has received a letter from Volodymyr Zelensky indicating a willingness to sign a rare earth minerals deal between Ukraine and America. In a major speech in US Congress, Trump said the Ukrainian leader had agreed to return to the negotiating table after a public spat at the White House appeared to rupture plans for a peace deal in the long-running conflict.
The president also said his administration had been in "serious talks" with Russia and "received strong signals" that Vladimir Putin is similarly "ready for peace". The Kremlin praised Trump's move to freeze US military support to Ukraine on Monday, suggesting that it would "encourage" Kyiv to engage in the peace process.
He also proclaimed "America is back" and that he was "just getting started".
